Prima modular building

The Hill Group, with funding from the West Midlands Combined authority, and support from Coventry City Council were contracted to relocate the ShopMobility centre as part of the Coventry City Centre South major regeneration. Originally opening over 30 years ago, the new improved facility, represents a significant improvement for its users and the community.

The working area of the site provided Pickerings with a number of challenges as it was a very tight space to install the building (it was next to a multi-storey car park and surrounded by a one way traffic system), and the ground was not flat. After several site visits, the team planned around these issues.

The new facility was focused on a pedestrian friendly design, enhancing the retail offerings, the inclusion of new changing places toilet and extra space to allow drop offs, to make it more accessible and enrich the lives of residents and visitors in the area by signifying the beginning of a broader regeneration project in Coventry. Our flexible design means that the buildings can easily be relocated.

Sustainably sourced timber cladding was used to ensure planning conditions were met. Our nationwide network of depot meant that it was only 25 miles to site from leaving the depot.

The building represents the start of a new chapter in accessibility for the city centre. Following the success of the building and facilities that it has provided, Coventry City Council has secured funding for the second time to install modular Changing Places toilets by March 2024, joining 63 other local authorities nationwide.
