Pickerings is a responsible, caring company that looks after the wellbeing of its people and customers, and makes special efforts to minimise the impact of its operations on the environment and wider society.

STATEMENT: Our Commitment to Sustainability

The Pickerings Environmental Management System is accredited to ISO14001 allowing us to have processes to minimise environmental impact through the preparation, delivery, and installation of the buildings.

By integrating sustainable practices into our operations, we aim to reduce our environmental footprint, conserve resources, and contribute to a more sustainable future. We regularly review and update our sustainability goals and initiatives to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with best practices in the industry.

We assess the likelihood and consequences of our contribution to depletion of natural resources, resources sent to waste, contamination of the atmosphere, soil and watercourses, human health effects, run off into watercourses, effects on flora, fauna and ecosystems and nuisance to neighbours and the local community.

Our product range includes well-insulated, energy-efficient modular buildings, portable cabins, static and mobile welfare solutions and accessories. Buildings feature PIR-controlled lighting and other energy-saving features to reduce the amount of energy needed for heating and lighting. Pickerings environmental policy is aimed at minimising and reducing waste. At our locations we segregate and recycle as much waste as possible particularly from portable cabins and modular buildings returning from hire.

We meet customers at the outset of any larger contract to understand their requirements for modular buildings and portable cabins. We plan the installation to their site to minimise impacts on their people, local community and the environment.

Our supply chain is made up of specialist suppliers to the portable accommodation industry nationwide and many local suppliers near to Pickerings hire locations so we support the local communities.

Pickerings delivery vehicles are fitted with trackers to enable us to monitor best practice in driving standards to improve fuel efficiency. Our Fleet Director issues monthly reports to all managers who discuss findings with HGV drivers and as a result we have seen substantial fuel savings on our vehicles.

At some Pickerings locations we have electric charging points for electric and hybrid cars and energy saving items such as photo-voltaic solar panels. In addition, some locations have defibrillators installed in case of emergency.

As well as supporting local charities close to our hire depots our national charities are Cancer Research UK and MIND, the mental health charity. In addition, our group of companies has donated substantial amounts to The Princes Trust, Birmingham Childrens Hospital, Acorns, Rainbows, Helen and Douglas House, The Shakespeare Hospice, Cancer Research UK and Prostate Cancer.
