The COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
To help fight the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic the Department of Healthcare and Social Care needed to establish a nationwide network of drive-through and walk-through test sites for people with coronavirus symptoms.
The process for identifying suppliers and submission of tenders in the LTS Project (Local Testing Sites) was administered by the Crown Commercial Service under Modular Buildings Framework (ref RM6014.)
As an existing supplier to the Crown Commercial Service Pickerings was invited to tender for the LTS Project and following a successful bid was awarded contracts on sites nationwide.
There was a need for a testing site to be established in Eastern England at Kings Lynn in Norfolk that would operate 7 days a week.
The main requirement for the Kings Lynn site was to hire an 8-bay testing solution. Pickerings also provided mobile welfare facilities; Anti-vandal portable canteen; portable toilets; Anti-vandal portable gatehouse; secure storage containers. The LTS Project saw a need for fully functioning, well equipped buildings which enabled many products and services from the Pickerings+ range to be provided in conjunction with modular and portable buildings.
On each site additional equipment from the Pickerings+ range included a marquee shelter to protect people from rain while waiting for testing; temporary perimeter fencing; tower lights for increased visibility during night time and in winter months; generators to produce power; water bowser; fuel bowser; fire extinguishers; wi-fi for instant broadband; hard furnishings that needed to have been sterlised before use; ramps and steps to comply with DDA (Disability Discrimination Act.)
All products and services had to be installed on site to a strict timescale and become operational immediately.
The temporary modular building at Kings Lynn was originally scheduled to be on hire for a minimum of 26 weeks.
Pickerings provided fully functioning moular buildings and portable buildings along with a wide range of additional products and services within a very strict timescale.
