International Women's Day 2025

On the lead up to International Women’s Day on the 8th March, we wanted to recognise and celebrate the different roles of women here at Pickerings and the vital role they play in shaping the future of the construction industry. We are proud sponsors of the “Women in Modern Methods of Construction” award at the MMC Awards in May – celebrating excellence and achievement in our industry.

This year’s theme ‘Accelerate Action’ serves as a powerful reminder that all sectors of society must work together to quicken the pace of progress for women’s rights and empowerment.

This week we wanted to shine a spotlight on some of the incredible women who form the heartbeat of our organisation. We asked them to share an insight into their career and help us to discover the unique stories that make our female employees stand out.

I left this role after 8 years to become the Pickerings+ advisor aiding my colleagues at Pickerings.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you personally?

Equality can only be achieved if the diversity, differences, and qualities of women are truly valued. A day when all women are recognised for their achievements.

What women have inspired you and why?

I have been greatly inspired by my grandma Mary, she was a wonderful lady who brought me up to the best of her abilities, she was able to hand down her knack for pulling up my big girl knickers when situations get tough. I am the woman I am today because of her guidance and support ❤

I think that it makes sure that our voices are heard and it great to hear about more women in managerial roles. It highlights how far we have come for equality and being given the same opportunities.

What women have inspired you and why?

My mum has inspired and supported me throughout my life. I followed her example into a managerial role and she taught me to always thrive to be the best version of myself.

My previous Manager really supported me and helped me to develop my skill set which meant that I gained the experience for the role that I am in today.
